"Stigma is a word that should be kicked away- and 'shame' and 'guilt' - because it's a condition. The diagnosis took away all of my guilt because I found out it wasn't my behavior- it was something I was born with. I didn't feel shame or guilt. It's like being ashamed that you're 5-foot-6 or something. It's just part of me." - Richard Dreyfuss, talking about his #bipolardiagnosis
May being #mentalhealthawarenessmonth💚 we continue talking about #mentalhealth , #mentaldisorders and everything you gotta know to enlighten yourself such as causes , symptoms, treatments and how to take care of our loved ones living with the various diorders. They say those who fly solo have the strongest wings. It doesn’t feel that way. Strong ppl feel weak too. Resilient ppl don’t always bounce back. Wounds don’t always heal. Hearts don’t always mend. This bird’s wings don’t fly like they used to. #depression#grief#loss#trauma#mentalhealth

On Sunday Pastor Shawn’s message moved me. In college we learned how to create a stress management program, how to identify stress, and also studied how living a balanced lifestyle can help combat depression, anxiety, high blood pressure, etc. What we are experiencing now isn’t necessarily in the text books. Here are 4 tips that you can use to combat faulty thoughts.
FAULTY THINKING - we let one person get into our minds. We are so good at rehashing our failures, rehearsing it over and over in our minds, and then we sink a little deeper (Philippians 4:8). Stop chewing on the past. Stop thinking about past experiences and letting them bring you back into that dark pit. Spit it out!
AVOID ISOLATION - People need people. We thrive from relationship. I’m not talking just boyfriend/girlfriend relationships. I’m talking friendships too. NEVER go into the wilderness alone. You are the LAST person to take advice from.
BE LED BY OUR FEELINGS - Feelings are so faulty. We need to build our life on truths and not feelings.
COMPARISON GAME - We do this all. the. time. You absolutely cannot measure your life worth by others social media. We only share our best on IG, right? There is a season to sit and scroll through social media. Stop comparing yourself to others. (Psalm 139:14). No one is sharing pictures of their dirty kitchens, or their pile of laundry and some might be taking 20,50, or 100 pictures until they get the perfect shot. Stop. Comparing. Yourself.
I know this isn’t my typical upbeat post, but we are in a time where depression is beyond high. 1 in 9 Americans are currently on antidepressants. If you are looking for help, know you’re not alone.
We are here to be there for each other. I have said this many times, it’s okay to not be okay. Reach out for help!
“After I came off tour...I was just super depressed. I mean, I tried to kill myself. I was really fucked up after that, because I had this girl that I thought I was going to marry and we broke up. I didn’t feel like I knew what I was doing. I wasn’t living up to my standard, I was living up to other people’s standards, and I just said ‘I don’t see the point” - DONALD GLOVER @childishgambino
A creative genius on so many levels, who has shown exceptional intellectual ability, creative productivity, universality and originality that has enriched our culture in many ways. We appreciate his transparency around his ebs and flows in life.
🚩 I had to remind myself this: A person that values you would NEVER put themselves in a place to lose you. 🌹Give people their roses when they're alive and not dead.🥀 .

This book sheds some lights on how Woodbridge Hospital became known as IMH. No wonder. It’s purpose is to reduce stigmatization of the public towards the mental patients.
The man in this book is an author who spearheaded some ideas to improve IMH and the lives of mental patients.
He felt that “the name of Woodbridge hospital had proclivity to provoke mockery and fear” - p66.
Interestingly, it mentioned that a TV actress told the audience, “I suffered from depression, I was treated and now I am well. Seeing a psychiatrist is nothing to be ashamed of.” - p99.
Of course, it’s in the West but not the same elsewhere in the world, unfortunately.
A book by Philip Yancey, In the Likeness of God, about the missionary doctor, Paul Brand. To him, “these people amongst the most neglected people on Earth, were not nobodies, but rather, people made in the image of God, and he devoted his life to honour that image.”

Perfectionism is something I’ve been thinking a lot about recently.
For me, I realised that I was never happy because these goals I set myself were unrealistic and impossible to achieve, leaving me feeling disappointed in myself and worthless.
Being a perfectionist can be a good thing but you also need to question whether this trait is something that’s altering the way you view yourself and your self-esteem.
FIND AN OUTLET FOR YOUR EMOTIONS...
Friends, Like many of you I'm a super sensitive person. I feel A LOT, and sometimes those feelings can be overwhelming.
Further more as an empath, not only do I feel emotions (like in the mind as we all do), but I feel them physically. There are times I can literally feel trapped energy sitting in my stomach, or attached to my hips... Sometimes the energy is so heavy that it at times feels difficult to walk. Can you relate? It's not in your mind... ENERGY CAN BE FELT.
Most of the illness and diseases that we see today are connected to energy that was taken in or produced within that needed to be let go but was not. It's not our fault. Don't go anywhere with what I just said.
Don't start blaming yourself. Illness in the body serves a much deeper purpose and it isnt about anyone thing someone did or didn't do, or about trying to find fault.
Instead simply be aware that everything is energy and where a lot of things begin for us as human beings is in the mind and with our emotions. Use this knowledge to help yourself release any emotions that are causing you any pain and suffering. Becsuse what doesn't get released stays idle and we don't want that. I felt so much better after I took a salt bath and wrote last night. I'll be doing some light therapy tonight and shielding myself from all negative energy. How will you channel your emotions today? Let me know.
I’ve worked in mental health for many years. With diverse populations in varied settings. Witnessed and held space for harrowing and heartbreaking things.
In the past two years Ive observed a significant increase in political trauma. Granted, this may be in part to the clients with whom I currently work, but so many of my sessions center around fear of the government. Of legislature. When Trump got elected. When allegations against Kavanaugh were dismissed. The blatant violence towards and subjugation of POC and minorities. Detrimental changes to environmental policies. Educational policies. Healthcare policies. The recent abortion ban has been terrifying for many.
I was speaking with someone about it and they commented that it likely won’t pass at the federal level. I hope not. But the damage is done.
Trauma is anything too intense, too fast, too soon for the nervous system to process. It lives in the body. The emotions and sensations have already been experienced. Fear, shame, a sense of powerlessness, feelings of oppression, lack of choice. Old traumas have re-surfaced.
We get so divided on beliefs regarding these issues we forget humanity. It’s ok if you don’t believe in abortion. Don’t get one. But don’t tell me you care about children when you don’t fund healthcare and educational systems. Don’t support new mothers and new babies during imperative stages of development. Don’t claim you want to protect embryos by outlawing abortion, but say IVF, which destroys numerous embryos, is ok (I’m not saying IVF is wrong, I’m just pointing out the hypocrisy). Don’t tell me my 11 year old client who was repeatedly raped by her step father has to have that baby and constantly be reminded.
These are problems. Everyone’s problems. Political trauma is not new. We are not the first generations to experience it. But if we continue to fail to recognize the political environment and psychological well-being are bidirectionally related, and don’t make the necessary paradigm shifts that promote human needs and well-being, we will remain traumatized. As will our children.
This is not a portal to another dimension, it's my TV playing binaural beats. I often pick a frequency in the morning, and meditate to it for a while. Today I chose the frequency for self esteem, and confidence. Most of us can use a boost in that area, but it's been something I've struggled with for a long time. A friend told me last night that he'd like to see me relax, and have fun. I was kinda embarrassed by how right he was; it's often "work work work" for me. So I started working on that today. What are you doing today to get closer to your goals?
Dreaming of more tea and sympathy as I’m back at work today after my holiday (sorry for the silence!) this bath was so moisturising and so soothing I may just need to stock up on these. Has anyone else tried this and also thought it was DIVINE? @lushglasgowfort@lushcosmetics@lush
For a long time I had no idea what depression was until I became a caregiver and started seeing it impact the life of my mom and close friends. .
Depression is more than just feeling sad. Everyone feels upset or unmotivated from time to time, but depression is more serious. It is a mood disorder characterized by prolonged feelings of sadness and loss of interest in daily activities.
I would often encourage them as I didn’t always understand why they couldn’t just shake the feeling away. The more I became aware of the signs of depression, the more I could support them through their lowest moments. .
I often encourage them by reminding them how much they are needed and loved! .
If you are having one of those days I want to encourage you to PRESS ON💪🏽 it shall pass! .
You are VALUED
You are NEEDED
You are ENOUGH
You are a WARRIOR
You are STRONG
You are LOVED

Until now, Nyssa has predominantly focused on the female and female-identifying postpartum experience. We’re going to start including more fathers’ stories in the mix. Because the health of our personal relationships has a profound impact on our entire family’s sense of wellbeing during the Fourth Trimester. Because the good men (be they boyfriends, husbands, friends, brothers, our own fathers) stand beside us and our children— though that will of course look different for each of us. Because becoming a parent impacts mothers, fathers, and full-time caregivers in unique but equally important ways. Because men give birth, too. We’re on this wild journey together and we want Nyssa to be as inclusive as possible. If you feel there are voices that aren’t being heard but should be— please, DM us or e-mail (info in profile)! We are always learning and would love to hear from you.
Today, we want to call attention to a little known fact: new fathers can also experience Postpartum Mood & Anxiety Disorders. According to postpartummen.com, some studies have shown the number of fathers suffering from paternal postpartum depression every day to be as many as 2700. That number is incredibly high since this isn’t widely recognized, therefore not widely treated. As we all work to raise awareness of postpartum depression among new mothers, it's clear more research and screening needs to be done to promote greater understanding of the mental health and wellbeing of new fathers, too. If you know of any good resources to help, please share below. ✨
Pretty please 🖤

"Beloved, I wish above ALL things that you should prosper and be in GOOD health just as your SOUL (mind, will, emotions) prospers" [ 3 John 1:2 ]
I attended another one of WORK_SPACE Manchester's Ted Talk Tuesday lunchtime events yesterday.
Since May is Mental Health Awareness Month, it was fitting to have the topic be mental health. After watching some videos, it opened up some deep and honest conversation, with some in attendance sharing stories about their own personal struggles. That's the best way for all of us to learn -- to share and to listen.
TTT's are always a great way to meet and learn from people from different backgrounds and experiences. Thank you to WORK_SPACE for these and other great community events that are put on.
And thank you to @mentalhealthct for partnering with WORK_SPACE and providing some great material and insight.

You are enough! We make mistakes and that's okay. One of the most incredible things about being human is that we can learn from our mistakes and challenges. They make us stronger and wiser. But most of all, know that the effort you gave today, this week and this year is enough. You matter xx
This is a mood.
Today has been on of those days of ridiculous fatigue and lethargy. So tired of being tired all the time.
I didn't think at the age of 25 I would be able to relate more with my grandma than other 25 years olds. We both love naps, early nights, fuzzy socks, cups of tea, heated blankets and scones with jam and cream. .
You know you are fighting endo fatigue when a hot water bottle and 7pm bedtime is something you actually get excited about...
The human body is the most sophisticated organism on the planet; and within each sophisticated organism from the human race lys the most complex organ known here on Earth, the human brain.
The word "brain" tends to to be used to describe the physical components of the most sophisticated organ known to humans; but the way the brain processes information in accordance to the information it receives through our five senses (touch, smell, hearing, taste, eyesight) is all a product of the mind. It's important to understand the difference between the brain and mind to help gain a better understanding of yourself.
The Mind is a set of cognitive faculties based on how our genetics interacts with our environment. It includes consciousness, imagination, perception, thinking judgement, language, and memory.
