Ran 50 miles, so I think I earned my wine. 🍷
I've never run the distance before, and honestly had no idea what to expect from my body once I hit that uncharted territory. I figured I'd just take it fairly easy and not run the uphills, and I can definitely say my body is thanking me for that decision right now. I probably could have pushed it a touch harder, but then again my main goal was simply to finish and not flame out spectacularly. Definitely plenty of takeaways to learn from for the future... ...because why stop at one? 😅

"About Morro Rock Beach
Morro Rock, a State Historic Landmark, was formed about 23 million years ago from the plugs of long-extinct volcanoes. Morro Rock was an important navigational aid for mariners for over 300 because the rock is approximately 576 feet tall which made it the most visible in a chain of 9 peaks. Portuguese explorer, Juan Rodriguez Cabrillo named the rock "El Morro" in 1542. In Spanish "Morro" means crown shaped hill. Morro Rock, sometimes called the "Gibraltar of the Pacific," is the last peak of the Nine Sisters, which extend from San Luis Obispo to Morro Bay."

Wild end to my day! The ascent was uneventful, nice trail, plenty of shade and even several water springs. The only issue going up, the flies and mosquitos were relentless. I’m not sure why - but they kept insisting on going up my nose, eyes or ears...very annoying!!! Once at the summit, the place was very spread out. Radio antennas and many telescopes adorn this peak. Knowing that I could run some of the trail going down, I took a two hour nap and tour the museum. Right around 3:30 I started my trek down to the parking lot. After a mile and half, I heard two hikers telling me not to go down the trail...they had seen a Mt. Lion so they went a different route. Not wanting to take any chances, I looked at the map and confirmed the trail was indeed shorter so I joined them. Very soon I realized that the trail we were on was not maintained or even used...it was very overgrown, steep and nobody but us. Well, no other humans that is, there we encountered some wildlife 🐻. Once again we had to take yet another route, the bears we encountered did not moved away from trail. That added more mileage and yet another trail that was even more steep and overgrown, and yet more wildlife – there we encountered some snakes 🤦🏻♂️. When I finally made it to the parking lot, I was relief and happy. But also very upset with myself for not staying on the stablished trail...def learned several lessons yesterday.

“For years people have asked me if I have photographed white tigers. I answer that I have not been to Las Vegas and that is the only place that I know of that has white tigers besides zoo’s – and I do not photograph in zoo’s very often. White tigers are no longer found in the wild.
White tigers are like black panthers – which are melanistic jaguars or leopards – black, but they still have the rosettes of jaguars or the spots of leopards. I went to the Singapore Zoo the other day and saw white tigers. Singapore is situated close to 2 of the most endangered subspecies of tigers, the Malay and Sumatran tiger – both under great threat from habitat loss and destruction from unregulated palm oil, paper logging and poaching. We need to find a way to save the Malay and Sumatran tigers!"
